Article Overview

Artifact Uprising History

Founded by husband-wife team Matt and Jenna Walker in 2012, along with Jenna’s sister, the company is relatively new to the photo printing space but has quickly won over the photographer, blogger and designer communities with its beautiful, handcrafted, high-quality work.

Located in Denver, Colorado, this company started in a basement, and two years later has a team of more than a dozen people boasting over 1 million photos uploaded. Even with this rapid success, Artifact Uprising still focuses on the same core values of producing the best possible products.

As professional photographers, the owners found themselves taking thousands of photos but “we realized our documented lives were sitting on our phones and computers with no true place to live on,” says Jenna Walker, CEO and co-founder. Thus Artifact Uprising was born.

Artifact Uprising also takes home first place in our reviews of photo books online. For a full list of pros and cons and to find out why they won our coveted #1 spot among its competition, check out our in-depth Photo Book Comparison Review.

A Photo Printing Company With Values

There are a number of core values that Artifact Uprising believes in strongly that sets it apart in the photo book publishing industry.

  • Being from Denver, the Walkers thought it was important to be an eco-conscious company that was respectful of the environment. As a result, Artifact Uprising is locally made with recycled paper and reclaimed wood whenever possible.
  • The company takes advantage of the already dead and potentially wasted Beetle Pine wood in their area around the Rocky Mountains to make 100% post-consumer waste paper.
  • They’ve also partnered with a non-profit to provide jobs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who help assemble their calendar and wood blocks.

I must let all know to be careful of their address change process once the order is submitted. I processed an address change; however, the gift still went to the original address (despite my better effort to immediately email the contact I had working with about the order, Noel) and ruined a Christmas surprise. More than a little frustrating, disappointing, and a complete waste of the expedited shipping costs.

Oh Aimee, my heart is so sad for the ruined surprise! I responded to your email explaining the system error with the online updating that caused your package to arrive at the original address you entered (instead of the updated one)???. and while we know that our apologies cannot un-ruin a surprise, we do hope our proposed solution(s) can help turn an unfortunate situation into something better for the recipients! Take a peek at your email and let???s partner together to make your friend???s new furry family member feel like he/she won the jackpot!
