James, 23andMe does look at some Y-DNA and mtDNA with their basic DNA test. But it’s important to note that 23andMe doesn’t offer separate, in-depth Y-DNA and mtDNA tests like Family Tree DNA does. Family Tree DNA is the only company in our reviews that allows you to transfer data from 23andMe. I’d also recommend he upload to GEDmatch, which is free for uploading and basic research. Hope that helps!
